OUTREACH PROGRAMME
At Bethany we now have an outreach programme. We consider it important that Bethany is a core part of the local community, and we try to give back to society in any way that we can.
One way in which we do this is that we offer motivational talks. These can be catered towards any age-group, or group-size and can be organized to suit specific needs or topic-areas. These are held free of charge; however any donations are willingly received toward transport costs and to the home itself.
We are also involved in a Lifestyle Mentoring programme, which is currently happening in 4 different schools. We talk about different issues to the young people that affect them in their everyday lives, specifically in educating the youth on the realities of unprotected sex so that they can be encouraged to make responsible choices, and on the plight of orphans, unwanted, vulnerable and unplanned children. We want to inform them of the numerous service providers that are at hand to help in such situations instead of putting the children at risk. Each week there is a 45 minute session held at each school for those on the course.
We have adopted one community, which is the nearest disadvantaged community to us. That community we will be working with throughout, where we are trying to develop their youth. We are now one family with Silverton Community.

OUTREACH EVENTS:
Ncambedlana Community We visited Nacambedlana Community, to share clothes which are too large for our children. We were happy to see them given a good home to those who appreciate it.

Themba Shelter: We spent time with those living in Themba Shelter, a place of refuge for AIDs sufferers in the community. Peer Educators from WSU (Nelson Mandela Drive Campus) donated food, and helped out with different things which needed doing, such as gardening and cleaning.

UCR FM We are regular guests on our local radio station Unitra Community Radio, and have also been joined on occasions by our resident health practitioner and other members from the Department of Health, to speak about child-related health issues to the listeners.

Madiba Day On the Madiba Day, Silverton Community was visited by Minister Lindiwe Sisulu (Minister of SADF). The Miniister of SADF decided to renovate a hall for the community. The hall was officially dedicated to the Silverton Community on the 22nd July 2011. The hall was named after our outreach co-ordinater, it was announced as Asanda Hall by the SADF. On behalf of Silverton Community we would love to thank Minister Lindiwe Sisulu, all the admirals from SADF, all the officials from SADF and the soldiers for the wonderful, fruitful Madiba Day.
